Valentine’s day gift guide for Him and Her!
It’s that time of year again and
all the محن is in the air. And
what better way to forget about being single than to indulge in a blog post
about Valentine’s day gifts? Eh? Let’s get on with it though.
I get asked a lot about a good
gift to get someone, I’ve had my fair share of gift wrapping and gift
customization advice on DYG page. Sure custom made gifts are a great idea to
tell someone that you took the time/effort to make them something special, but
this post won’t only suggest cool customized gift ideas it will also give the
run down of some of the cool gifts that can be bought on the market this
season. Here is a top ten list for girls and another one for the gents:
Top ten Gifts for ladies:
1. Pandora bracelet/charm:
There is no doubt that this one of my favorite gifts of all time, not
only for valentine’s, but year-round. The fact that you can get a charm for
each occasion/place makes it a versatile gift that requires little to no
effort. If your lady is a Pandora lover, she will love you for this gift that
can even become a tradition each year, you can start with a bracelet and then
add to it a charm each year, the fact that these can be stacked means you’ll
never run out of space for a new one.
2. Coat:
Maybe Valentine’s day happens to be in the second half of winter, and
its already getting a but warm, but unlike seasonal jackets, a classic coat is
an item of clothing that is both useful and never runs out of style. If she
already owns a classic black coat, you can opt for anther color like for
example café or navy, they’re wardrobe essentials. I personally love this one from Tommy. Its also a bonus that there is a sale going on in some shops at the
moment.
3. Book/Planner:
If your lady is a reader or a stationary lover, then a simple but
expressive gift is getting her the next book on her reading list or maybe a
cute looking planner for her to jot down her to-do list each morning. If you’re
handy make sure to personalize it a little, maybe add a handmade book mark, or
get her initials printed on engraved on the planner.
4. Shopping voucher:
Stuck and don’t know what to get her, or scared you’ll get her something
she doesn’t like? Give her the gift of going shopping, a lot of stores offer
shopping vouchers and cards, you can buy her one of whatever value you want and
allow her to do her own shopping, if you know that she likes a specific store,
maybe you can go on a trip there and ask them if they have vouchers.
5. Custom made silver key ring/necklace:
I’ve already written a post on the best silver shops around Cairo here. Now
of course if you’re short on time and getting her the gift last minute then a
customized necklace or key ring with her name on it may not be doable, but you
can always get her a nice necklace or a bracelet, steer away from rings if you’re
not already married and you’re not willing to pop the question anytime soon.
6. Watch:
Have some cash to splurge on a more expensive gift? Try a watch, it’s a classic
gift that never gets old. The cool thing about buying a watch is that you can
always buy something classic if you don’t really know what to buy or which
taste may suite your lady better. If she’s a techy maybe get her one of those
cool new smart watches, or even the hybrid type.
7. Makeup/skincare:
This is one that you maybe need to ask a lady friend to help you with,
if you’re not 100% sure what kind of skincare she likes to use or is used for
her skin type you can even ask her. Also when it comes to make up, try to opt
for something universal that does not require you to match her skin shade. Ask
for help on this one, or you may want to take her to the store and let her
choose.
8. Spa appointment/indulgence day:
Valentine’s is about being together, that’s true, but maybe to maintain
a healthy relationship you need to get your separate pampering sessions, you
can book her a day in a spa for a relaxing massage or some spa services. Take her
out for a romantic dinner afterwards and you got the perfect day made.
9. Custom made mug with tea bag:
Check out these customized tea bags, write her a cute message inside
each one so that every morning you renew your love for her even when you’re not
together. Pair it with a custom mug with her initials or a quote she loves, or
even her superhero. You can get the tea bags made here, or you can make them
yourself, and for the mug you can customize it at any Kodak store or some Xerox
service centers.
10. Phone case/phone accessories:
A phone is an item that your woman will use all the time every day, get
her a case that sparks her joy. Colorful designs or her horoscope signs, or you
can also get them customized. If she’s a techy you can get her
some accessories that she may fancy, a phone holder for her car, a wireless headphone
or some docks for her to listen to music and charge her phone.
Top ten gifts for gents:
1. Leather Magic Wallet from Massimo Dutti:
This is one of my favorite gifts for a guy, you’re basically getting him
a wallet, but you’re not just getting him a wallet. The magical trick behind it
makes it interesting, special and fancy at the same time.
2. Favorite soccer team jersey:
If he’s a traditional soccer fan, invest in a high quality original copy
of his favorite team’s jersey and join him in watching the game. Guys may not
tell you all the time but they do love it when you share their interest the
same way you love it when they watch movies with you.
3. Shoes:
A shoe is not something that immediately comes to mind when you think of
valentine’s day gifts, but if you give it some thought, a shoes is a statement
in any man’s wardrobe. Choose one that suites his everyday activity, if his
work requires a formal attire choose something formal, if he just recently
enrolled in a gym or is used to working out, he will appreciate a pair of new
trainers. Make sure you get the size right or ask for a gift receipt for him to
exchange it if he needs a different size.
4. Gadget:
Most of men are techies, if your man is the sort that spends his time watching
tech reviews and browsing amazon for phones and tech accessories, then maybe
this is a sign to what you need to do, but him a gadget that he wanted for a
while, be it that a smart watch or a cool coffee maker, it will be an item dear
to his heart even if he doesn’t use it all that much.. like all men do..
5. Car accessory:
There are so many cool things that can come in handy to use in a car,
starting from a hot mug, to a phone holder, all the way to brand new
entertainment system. Scout his car and find out what’s missing and get him
just that, or if he really appreciates his car and spends time with it, maybe
you can get him a tools box or a detailing kit.
6. Tickets to his favorite concert/game:
Get online and get searching, do you know that band he loves, they may
have a concert soon, buy two tickets and take him there. If you know that there
is a team he follows, search for their upcoming game and buy tickets. If the
event your planning is in the future, just give him the ticket on valentine’s
day while having a romantic dinner and then you can re-live the moment when you
go to attend the event.
7. Cook/Bake for him:
Giving the gift of good food is something that will always speak
directly to your man’s heart. Cook him a warm meal, and set up a romantic
dinner on candle light. Run him a warm bath with candle light and pamper him.
Sometimes just keeping it simple will mean more to him if he is over-worked or
stressed, it won’t just be a valentine’s day gift but a decent break that he
will keep appreciating.
8. Custom made phone case:
I included this idea in both the gift guides for men and women because
it is really a unique gift that says you took the time to think of giving them
something simple, useful but made with effort and is unique to them only.
9. Engraved Pen:
Khodeir stationary not only have A TON of very nice gift items from desk
kits to shirt buttons to wallets and also high-end pens, giving him a pen is a
good idea, but what’s even better is having his name or his initials engraved
on it, they have a wide selection of silver and golden pens that come with
their cases and you can even buy them in matching pairs.
10. Fitbit:
Its technically a watch but its actually more than that, its like giving
your partner a gym subscription, this little thing will track and monitor his
activity. It works for most people even if they are not athletic or don’t have
a sportive background, it’s a fun way to get them to start working out or at
least walking and counting their steps if they don’t work out at all. But it’s
also a good tracking tool for those who do work out on the regular.
