How to make mouse pads and coasters from cork - DIY

Marble table top, check. Marble vase, check. Marble phone case! Check! Every time I see any cool marble or marble-like accessory or even desktop wallpaper I gotta have it.. so it was no surprise at all that I was suddenly googling (more like looking on Pinterest really) marble mouse pads.. yes such a thing exists.. sigh..

While looking on there I found a lot of cool ones I also found a lot of DIY ideas for making your own mouse pads.. some easier than others.. so I decided to give it a go.. and even though marble was the plan.. that quickly changed when I started browsing freepik.com.
I’ve been collecting cool designs and playing around with Adobe Illustrator a lot recently that’s why I go on freepik frequently to download some of those cool graphics.. it was there that I found these Islamic prints, which were similar to a gift wrapping paper in craft color that I bought recently from Diwan.. since it was Ramadan, I thought I would go for the marble mouse pads but also make some with these cool big patterns. I also dug out some free printables that I got from melstampz.blogspot.com she has some awesome freebies on her blog. I got the faux marble sticker roll from a wallpaper shop.

I made this video tutorial that will take you through the process step by step.. but you can also follow the guide below.. Happy Crafting!

So to start with you will need these tools:

  • Pencil Divider (you can use a plate if you don’t have one)
  • Pencil
  • Round Ruler
  • 2mm Cork
  • Faux marble sticker paper or wrapping paper or printed design on 150 gm paper

The first step you need is to mark a circle, you can do this with the divider or using any round object, make a bigger one for a mouse pad, and a smaller one for the coaster.
Repeat the same step on the pattern of choice.. you don’t have to use paper by the way, you can do this with fabric or sticker or any material really.

Finally, stick the round paper to the cork, and remove the rough edges. If you’kll use faux marble sticker like mine it sticks right on, just make sure to remove the backing an inch at a time to make sure there is no air bubbles. If you’ll use wrapping paper then you can use a hot glue gun or normal glue or double face adhesive (my personal favorite).

 And Voila! You’re done.

Enjoy!
